Publication Ethics and Academic Integrity
The scientific journal “Acta Academiae Beregsasiensis. Economics” upholds the standards of academic integrity, scholarly responsibility, and ethical conduct at every stage of the publication process — from manuscript submission to the dissemination of published materials.
The journal’s editorial policy is grounded in the principles of honesty, transparency, impartiality, and respect for intellectual property. The Editorial Board is guided by the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), and the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities.
The journal considers only original scholarly manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. By submitting a manuscript, authors agree that, upon receiving a favourable review and acceptance for publication, the article may, following appropriate editorial processing, be made available in electronic databases, with full attribution to the authors and retention of their copyright in its entirety.
The journal’s editorial policy is founded on the principles of objectivity and impartiality in the selection of articles for publication; high standards of scholarly quality; mandatory peer review of all manuscripts; collegial decision-making regarding publication; accessibility and responsiveness in communication with authors; and strict observance of copyright and related rights.
1. Core Principles of Academic Integrity
The Editorial Board, authors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board are required to adhere to the following key principles:
- Honesty and accuracy — submitted materials must reflect genuine research findings, free from falsification, fabrication, or manipulation of data.
- Originality — each article must be an original scholarly work that has not been previously published and has not been submitted simultaneously to other journals.
- Proper citation — all sources, ideas, and materials drawn from other works must be duly cited in accordance with academic standards.
- Avoidance of plagiarism — any form of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or unauthorised use of others’ results is strictly prohibited.
- Objectivity and impartiality — peer review is conducted solely on the basis of scholarly criteria, without discrimination on grounds of nationality, gender, age, political or religious views.
- Author responsibility — the author(s) bear full responsibility for the content, accuracy, and lawfulness of the submitted materials.
2. Ethical Requirements for Participants in the Publication Process
2.1. Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
- to ensure a transparent and fair editorial process;
- to make publication decisions on the basis of scholarly significance and quality of the material;
- to prevent any form of discrimination, bias, or third-party interference — the Editorial Board evaluates the intellectual content of manuscripts independently of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, origin, citizenship, social status, or political views of the author(s);
- to maintain the confidentiality of all materials submitted for publication.
2.2. Responsibilities of Reviewers
- to conduct peer review impartially, confidentially, and professionally;
- not to use information obtained during the review process for personal purposes;
- to notify the Editorial Board of any potential conflict of interest or inadequacy of their competence in relation to the subject matter of the manuscript.
2.3. Responsibilities of Authors
- to be accountable for the accuracy of facts, proper names, photographic documents, other information, and the overall content of the article;
- not to breach the terms of the licensing agreement and publication agreement;
- to address all shortcomings identified in the manuscript (where reviewer comments have been provided);
- not to submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal — simultaneous submission is considered unethical conduct and is not acceptable;
- to ensure the authenticity of the article’s content in compliance with the principles of academic integrity;
- to submit articles that do not contain materials whose publication could result in the disclosure of restricted-access information (confidential information, state secrets);
- to cite the works of other authors correctly;
- to ensure that only those individuals who directly contributed to the preparation of the manuscript are listed as co-authors, and that all co-authors have reviewed the final version of the article, approved it, and consented to its publication;
- to disclose sources of funding, conflicts of interest, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, where applicable;
- to promptly notify the Editorial Board of any errors or inaccuracies identified after publication.
3. Prevention of Plagiarism and Misconduct
The Editorial Board checks all submitted manuscripts for textual similarity using the specialised software StrikePlagiarism.
Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism or any breach of academic integrity (including, but not limited to, unattributed text borrowing or data falsification) will be rejected by the Editorial Board without the possibility of resubmission.
4. Conflict of Interest
The Editorial Board, authors, and reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may affect the objectivity of research findings or the peer review process. This applies to:
- financial relationships (grants, honoraria, equity ownership, consultancy agreements, etc.);
- professional or personal relationships between authors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board;
- sources of research funding — which must be clearly indicated in the manuscript.
Authors are required to disclose the presence or absence of conflicts of interest in the designated “Conflict of Interest” section of the manuscript.
5. Academic Freedom
The Editorial Board upholds the principles of academic freedom of authors in accordance with international standards of editorial ethics, and does not intervene in the content of scholarly research, nor does it bear responsibility for its accuracy or interpretation. The views expressed in published materials are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the position of the Editorial Board or the journal’s founder.
6. Resolution of Ethical Disputes
All complaints concerning violations of academic integrity or ethical principles are addressed in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The Editorial Board guarantees prompt, confidential, and impartial consideration of every complaint received.
Ø The detailed complaints procedure is described in a separate document: [Complaints Policy]
7. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technologies
The journal permits the use of AI tools exclusively for ethical purposes — such as language editing, data processing, or literature search. The use of generative AI to produce content, falsify data, or substitute the author’s intellectual contribution is strictly prohibited. Authors are required to disclose any use of AI tools in the manuscript.
Ø Detailed rules, disclosure requirements, and restrictions are set out in a separate document: [AI Use Policy]
8. Open Access and Copyright
The journal “Acta Academiae Beregsasiensis. Economics” operates an open access policy with respect to published content. Content is distributed under the CC BY-NC 4.0 licence, which permits free use for non-commercial purposes, provided authorship is acknowledged.
Detailed conditions regarding open access, copyright, and licensing are described in a separate document: [Open Access and Copyright Policy]
