PRIVACY POLICY AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION
The Editorial Board of “Acta Academiae Beregsasiensis. Economics” upholds the principles of confidentiality and responsible use of personal data of all participants in the publication process: authors, reviewers, members of the Editorial Board, and users of the journal’s website. This policy has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679).
1. What Personal Data Are Collected and for What Purpose

2. Legal Basis for Data Processing (GDPR Art. 6)
The processing of personal data is carried out on the following legal bases:
- Performance of submission and publication terms (Art. 6(1)(b)) — for processing authors’ data, where authors have agreed to the submission terms upon uploading their manuscript to the journal system (OJS);
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to ensure the transparency of scholarly publications and the integrity of the publication process;
- Consent of the data subject (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for the inclusion of reviewers in the journal’s reviewer database (on the basis of a signed Application for Inclusion in the Reviewer Database), for the publication of personal data and academic profiles of Editorial Board members on the journal’s website, and for recording authors’ wish to be contacted for peer review.
3. Use and Non-Disclosure of Data
Personal data is used exclusively for:
- facilitating communication between authors, reviewers, and the Editorial Board;
- attributing scholarly publications and indexing in bibliometric databases;
- ensuring the transparency and integrity of the publication process;
- selecting appropriate reviewers for submitted manuscripts based on the reviewer database.
Personal data is not disclosed to third parties and is not used for commercial purposes. Exceptions include the transfer of data to indexing databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, etc.) to the extent necessary for indexing publications, and to technical service providers of the journal platform to the extent necessary for its operation.
4. Confidentiality of the Peer Review Process
During the double-blind peer review process, the Editorial Board ensures full confidentiality of the personal data of authors and reviewers from one another. The identity of the reviewer is not disclosed to the authors, and the identity of the authors is not disclosed to the reviewer. The content of peer review reports is confidential and may not be disclosed without the consent of the Editorial Board.
5. Data Retention Periods
Personal data are retained for the periods necessary to fulfil the purposes for which they were collected:
- data of authors of published articles — indefinitely (as part of the journal’s scientific archive);
- data of authors and reviewers of rejected manuscripts — for a minimum of 5 years from the completion of the editorial process (in accordance with COPE recommendations);
- data of reviewers in the reviewer database — until consent is withdrawn or a deletion request is received;
- technical data of website visitors (if cookies are activated in future) — in accordance with platform settings, generally no more than 12 months.
6. Rights of Data Subjects
In accordance with the GDPR, every data subject has the following rights:
- right of access — to obtain information about what data the Editorial Board processes about them;
- right to rectification — to request the correction of inaccurate or outdated data;
- right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — to request the deletion of data where the basis for processing no longer exists;
- right to restriction of processing — to request a temporary suspension of data processing;
- right to data portability — to receive their data in a machine-readable format;
- right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- right to withdraw consent — to withdraw consent to the processing of voluntarily provided data at any time;
- right to lodge a complaint — to submit a complaint to the relevant data protection authority.
7. Authors’ Responsibility for Third-Party Data
Authors are responsible for the ethical use of personal data of individuals who participated in research described in publications submitted to the journal. When publishing data of research participants, authors are required to obtain their written consent or to ensure appropriate anonymisation in accordance with research ethics standards.
8. Cookies and Analytics
The journal’s website does not currently use analytical or marketing cookies. Should such tools be introduced in future, this policy will be updated and users will be informed via a consent banner on the website.
9. Data Security
The Editorial Board implements appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or destruction. In the event of a data breach, the Editorial Board undertakes to notify affected individuals without undue delay.

11. Policy Updates
This policy is subject to review in the event of changes to personal data protection legislation or to the journal’s operational practices. The current version is always available on the journal’s website. Registered users will be notified of material changes by email.
