The article is concerned with analysing strategic directions for the development of Ukraine's energy machinery industry in the context of the global transition to a low-carbon economy. It examines the key challenges and opportunities facing the industry as a result of the introduction of energy-efficient technologies and the decarbonization of production in order to achieve the EU’s strategy to remove Russian oil, gas and nuclear energy imports from EU markets. It was found that Ukraine has sufficient scientific, technical, industrial and resource potential for the innovative development of the energy machinery industry. An analysis of the production and sales volumes of Ukraine's energy machinery industry and an assessment of foreign trade were carried out. This allowed Ukraine's needs for energy machinery products to meet the needs of the domestic market to be determined. Approaches to modernizing the production base by renewing generators, heat exchange equipment, turbines, control systems, and control and measuring equipment were proposed with the aim of extending the service life of existing nuclear power plants. However, this may be achieved by intensifying investment activity and commercialising scientific developments aimed at satisfying domestic energy needs and prospects for entering global markets. The authors determine possible directions for fostering the development of the industry, the main goal of which is not just to restore destroyed facilities, but rather to improve and integrate them into the European Community on the basis of sustainable development. The main areas identified include strategic planning, effective state support to accelerate the commercialization of scientific developments by sectoral institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the formation of partnerships with global partners, participation in international innovation projects, and improvement of the investment climate through the implementation of financial incentives.
