Remote work: problems of motivation

The objective of this research is to investigate the remote employment of workers and its impact on the development of the national economy. The number of people working remotely is constantly increasing around the globe. The ability to work remotely has led to the significant development of digital technologies and computer networks. The development of remote employment in Ukraine has been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the introduction of martial law since Russian aggression. The article examines the legal basis for the introduction of remote employment in Ukraine. There were investigated such concepts of remote work as freelance work, flexible working hours, etc. Emphasis is placed on the growing demand for artificial intelligence and machine learning specialists, as well as big data analysts. The preconditions for the introduction of distance employment at domestic enterprises and institutions have been studied too. The results revealed significant benefits of using remote employment for employers, and exposed a number of problems related to informational and communicational support for remote workers. We paid considerable attention to the introduction of artificial intelligence in the service sector and the need to encourage employees to be more creative, do highly productive work and continue to constantly self-develop. The article considers the potential risks associated with remote work and viable need for legal regulation of controlling remote workers' workload, quality of their work, disclosing trade secrets, and labour protection and safety. The particular emphasis is placed on the fact that the significant spread of remote work imposes risks of reduced social protection and social security of workers that must be addressed. On the other hand, the authors argue that not all jobs, even in the future, can be operated remotely. There will still be a need for the physical presence of customer service staff, sales and marketing specialists, training and development professionals, art representatives and others.
